City Food and Wine Month - March 2007

City of Perth’s annual Food and Wine Month is happening in March 2007 and includes special events and special deals!
Some of the events happening are:

Dinner on the Dock - Friday 2 March 2007 - Lamont’s East Perth

National Sausage King Competition - Saturday 3 March 2007 - Northbridge Piazza

WA Barista Championships - Saturday 3 + Sunday 4 March 07 - Perth Town Hall

Feast Perth (Food Fair, workshops and more) - Sunday 18 March 2007 - Claisebrook Cove, East Perth

Many of the city’s restaurants and cafes have special offers for lunch ($15 and $20) and dinner ($20) during this month. The Perth Mint Tea Garden is offering a special high tea, and some of the hotels offer special long weekend packages.

My weekly summary with the highlights of what’s on in Perth, Western Australia, this week; Monday 19 to Sunday 25 February 2007.
Some things are free, some cost money and some you will need to book tickets for. Click on the links for more info.

Music:

The WAMi Fesival continues until 25 February, with many great musical showcases, including the WAMi Awards on Wednesday 21 (with Eskimo Joe, Little Birdy, Double Entendre etc) and the Saturday Spectacular on the 24th! On every night of the week throughout the year you will find local bands playing in the pubs and clubs, in many different genres, but this week is especially packed with gigs, and especially Saturday, when it all kicks off from midday, and many gigs are free!

The Gozzy Rock all ages band comp heats are held at Don Russel Performing Arts Centre in Thornlie from 9 February to 2 March.

The UWA Perth International Arts Festival continues till 4 March 2007, and the Beck’s Verandah line-up is packed full, and includes free entry after the main acts, from 10.30pm each night (bands and djs).

Daryl Braithwaite performs at Friends Restaurant on Tuesday, Oceanus on Wednesday, The Leopold on Friday and at Elmar’s in the Valley on Saturday.

Westlife perform at Challenge Stadium with the Young Divas on Wednesday 21 February 2007.

WAMi Awards with Eskimo Joe (acoustic), Little Birdy, Dave Hole, The Stems, Double Entendre and DJ Matty P. Present by Robbie Buck and Rosie Beaton from Triple j/ jtv. Happening on Wednesday, tickets $55.

Peter. Bjorn and John perform at Beck’s Verandah on Thursday 22 Feb (Sold out).

Jazz in the Park in Stirk Park, Kalamunda from 6pm on Thursdays.

Crossthreads Music, Fashion and Dance at Forrest Chase on Friday night from 6.15 with the Panda Band etc, part of WAMi Festival.

Two Room Spectacular on Friday at Club Capitol/Amplifier for the WAMi Festival, Gyroscope, Red Jezebel, etc etc, tickets $16 online at Heatseeker.

The Northern Soul and Classic Motown night is held again at the Fly By Night on Friday.

Saturday

Be Active BOOMSHANKA 4! all ages event from 3pm at Wotton Reserve Skatepark in Embleton with Delta Forse & DJ Jamoo, Live Hip Hop plus DJs. Organised by City of Bayswater and WAM.

Perth City Muster, a big country music festival, is held at Claremont Showgrounds on Saturday.

Anthony Callea and Chris Murphy perform free at Scarborough Beach on Saturday for the City of Stirling and 92.9.

A South African Music Festival is held at Leederville Hotel on Saturday 24 February 07.

ABBR, an ABBA Tribute act, performs at Perth Zoo on Saturday.

Augie March perform with WASO at King’s Park on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 Feb 07.

WAMi Saturday Spectacular with over 70 Perth/WA bands and djs performing through the city and Northbridge from midday onwards.

All That Jazz with David Cambell is happening at Houghton Winery on Saturday, part of the Houghton White Classic Series.

A Twilight Concert is held at Upper Reach Winery on Saturday night with Adam Hall & The Velvet Playboys.

The City of Cockburn hold another concert (Countdown) on Saturday night at Hopbush Park in Southlake.

The Mundaring Weir Hotel Festival continues with David Helfgott on Saturday night.

Whiteman Park, ’summer of bush dances‘, with the Chain Reaction on Saturday from 7.30pm at Mussel Pool West. Entry is $8 for adults and $6 for children, bring your own chairs/picnic rugs and eskies, and the kiosk is open. Free train ride included.

UK breaks DJ Lee Combs performs at Ambar on Saturday night.

Simply Red is performing at Leeuwin Estate down south, but it has sold out.

Sunday

Out of the Ashes Bushfire Benefit Concert in Stirk Park Kalamunda organised by KCR-RM.

Yac a Toa All Ages WAMi Festival gig at McCallum Park in Vic Park with Gyroscope, Birds of Tokyo and more, free from 3pm.

City of Melville free concert and family fun at the Limestone Amphitheatre in Booragoon from 2pm.

The Bon Scott Celebration Concert is held at Claremont Showgrounds on Sunday 25 Feb 07.

Boy George performs a dj set at The Court Hotel on Sunday.

Gosnells Summer Concert - Freehold Jazz at Wilkinson Homestead.

Nedlands Summer Concert at the Swan River Bank, Nedlands with The Usual Suspects.

Free music every Sunday: Freo Arts Centre courtyard music, and Sunset@Subi in Subiaco.

Performing and Visual Arts:

Ballet at the Quarry (City Beach) in on until 9 March 2007.

Topol performs in Fiddler on the Roof at Burswood Theatre from 20 February to 4 March 2007.

Circus Oz performs under the Big Top at The Esplanade from 21 February till 5 March 2007.

Circus Joseph Ashton (a traditional circus) is at Midland from 23 February to 18 March 2007.

The Removalists, presented by Curtin’s Hayman Theatre Company is on at Subiaco Arts Centre from 20 to 24 February 2007.

Fragmented is an award-winning play performed at the Blue Room Theatre from 6 to 24 February 2007.

The Lost Girl, by Barking Gecko Theatre Company, is theatre for 5 to 10 year olds, and is on at Subiaco Arts Centre from 12 February to 3 March 2007.

The UWA Perth International Arts Festival is on from 9 February to 4 March 2007, and is jam packed with all sorts of entertainment.

The Romantic Misadventures of a Perth Girl Looking for Love is romantic comedy without romance, and will be performed at the East Amphitheatre from 14 to 23 February.

The Festival of Surf is happening at Scarborough Beach on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 February 2007, organised by the City of Stirling. The free Anthony Callea concert is part of it, and on Sunday there’s a great free Kids Day from 10am to 3pm.
Explosive Pro Wrestling (EPW) presents Date With Destiny on Saturday night at Venville Recreation Centre in Maylands.

A Bridal Fair is on at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre on Saturday and Sunday.

Totally Tomato Sunday is on at Araluen Botanic Park on 25 February.

Tales of Como Beach, free family fun happening at Comer Reserve in Como from 1pm.

The Fremantle Village Art Markets are held from 10am to 5.30pm every Thursday until the end of April.
Joondalup Sunset Markets are held from 6pm on Friday. From 7pm there is free music on Reid Promenade.
The Mandjar Markets are held at the Waterfront in Mandurah every Sunday from 1 to 5pm until the end of April.
